Accomplishments

 

 

MOMSTELL Developments:

 

-- Developed “Families of Addiction” an parent/family organization to address substance

   abuse/co-occurring disorder issues throughout Pennsylvania

-- Created  the first Independent Parent Advisory Council for Substance Abuse to address

  family and community access to alcohol and drug abuse and addiction treatment services

-- Participated in successful national campaign demanding Hershey Foods stop production of

   ice breaker pacs. The mints were packaged in small heat sealed square packets filled with

   white powder. The packets resembled illegal drug packets.

-- Liaison Network for Drug Watch International since October 2004

-- Participated in "Addiction is not Fashionable" campaign against Christian Dior's "Addict"

  product line and met with Paris executives in Manhattan, New York

--Parents testified at field hearings in Cumberland, Blair, Bucks, Philadelphia and Dauphin

-- Cumberland and Perry County Drug and Alcohol Bureau's Heroin Awareness Education

   Program at various schools and community meetings

-- Special guest of TV show "Call the Dr" to discuss drug and alcohol issues

-- WITF  Roundtable discussion on Heroin

-- Local Fox News Special- The Heroin Trap

-- Parents sharing their stories throughout their communities

-- Parents interviewed for local TV show on "Drugs in your neighborhood"

Legislation Involvement:

-- HR-585, to establish a parent panel to study accessible treatment services and make

   recommendations to facilitate access to treatment and intervention services in the

   community. (Passed unanimously June 13, 2006)

-- Working on the state budget every year to restore cuts and increase treatment funding

-- HB-28  a heroin drug trafficking bill (Passed into law June of 2000) Testifying in both the

   Pennsylvania House and Senate
